Role Title: Research Intern - Food Atlas
Organisation: Telethon Kids Institute (TKI)
Internship Period: Winter (June - July)
The surrounding food environment can play an important role in determining what people eat and subsequent health outcomes. This project will comprehensively map, measure and monitor food access and availability across Western Australia to create a Food Atlas. The Food Atlas will spatially visualise the location, type and mix of all food businesses, identifying the people and places with limited access to healthy food and/or an overabundance of unhealthy food. This level of evidence will be used by State and Local Governments to inform food and nutrition policy and surveillance, support planning decisions and future policy direction to create equitable, health-promoting communities that foster healthy eating. We are seeking a highly motivated intern to help carry out data entry and classification of food businesses, and contribute towards the development of the Food Atlas. The successful intern will work closely with other students and members of the project team.
This internship would suit someone interested in spatial data, and the connections between the food environment and health.
