Community Engagement Intern: Activity Development and Coordination

Role Title: Community Engagement Intern: Activity Development and Coordination

Organisation: Pingelly Community Resource Centre on behalf of Pingelly Somerset Alliance Inc.

Internship Period: Winter (June - July)

Location: Pingelly

Role Description

A virtual village (The Village), being established for Pingelly, Wickepin, Cuballing and Wandering to support people to stay living at home as they age, will have no walls, fences or special buildings but will be connected by members supporting one another, a concierge service and technology.
Belonging to The village will be like living in a lifestyle village without having to move with minimal membership costs. The concierge service is like those in large hotels – welcoming, enthusiastic and helpful whilst coordinating Village activities or connecting members to those in the community. The Village Concierge team will facilitate a range of other member services such as a buddy and volunteer system, a resource centre for information and support, security and peace of mind for members as they age. The activities and events program is designed to maintain a healthy body, active mind and community connection. Ensuring older people are not lonely, isolated or worried about coping as they age at home in a small rural community is the main objective. The Activities Development and Coordination Intern will work directly with The Village Executive, Activity Sub-Committee and Concierge Team to initiate and facilitate an activities and events program for members. The committee works closely with stakeholders from federal, state and local governments, healthcare, aged care and community services. The UWA SAGE Living Lab is supporting this 'social ageing' project.
