Project Intern - Scoping review for Rheumatic Heart Disease in the Pacific

Role Title: Project Intern - Scoping review for Rheumatic Heart Disease in the Pacific

Organisation: The Kids Research Institute Australia

Internship Period: Semester 1 (February - May)

Location: Nedlands

Role Description

This role will be based on site at The Kids Research Institute Australia, located at Perth Children's Hospital. The intern will assist the Strep A translation team, whose work aims to understand the epidemiology of Strep A infections in Australia and the world.
Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is a complication of Strep A infection which leads to damaged heart valves, heart failure and early death. It is one of the leading forms of preventable heart disease across the Pacific region and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia. We are looking for an intern to undertake a desktop scoping review of RHD control activities in each of the Pacific countries. This will involve gathering information on areas such as burden of disease, sore throat guidelines, screening/surveillance programs, RHD registers, secondary prophylaxis regimes, and access to surgery. This will be used to synthesise key learnings and understand current RHD control activities across the Pacific.
