Role Title: Legal Intern
Organisation: Aboriginal Legal Service of WA
Internship Period: Semester 2 (August - November)
The Aboriginal Legal Service of WA is co-convening a coalition of organisations in campaigning for the introduction of human rights legislation in WA, called Western Australia for a Human Rights Act (WA4HRA). The WA4HRA coalition is working on building community and governmental support for the introduction of human rights legislation in a similar model to legislation adopted in the ACT, Victoria and Queensland. The Legal Intern would assist with legal and policy research for the WA4HRA campaign and the development of resources for the campaign. The Legal Intern would also attend campaign meetings and assist with administrative support for the campaign. WA4HRA meetings are held monthly on Tuesday evenings from 6.00pm to 7.30pm and we would like the intern to be able to attend those meetings as part of their hours. The Legal Intern would be supervised directly by a lawyer from the Aboriginal Legal Service of WA's Civil Law and Human Rights Unit.
ALSWA aims to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and advance their interests and aspirations through a comprehensive range of legal and support services throughout Western Australia.
