Rudri Amin demonstrates the capacity and willingness of young people who are stepping forward to make a difference in their community.
Rudri is completing a 3-month UWA McCusker Centre for Citizenship internship with Auspire – Australia Day Council WA, which works to inspire social inclusion and active citizenship so everyone feels a sense of belonging in Australia.
The UWA Science student is assisting Auspire to deliver its social inclusion programs and initiatives for state-wide schools and help to improve its database and resources to reach out to as many WA schools as possible.
“Through my internship, I learnt the significance of programs that promote cultural awareness and reward community engagement, as they help to build a safer and more tolerant and inclusive community,” says Rudri.
“I’ve come to see how important it is to promote these values amongst young people, to establish a strong foundation for them to build upon in the future and to create more community-minded thinkers and leaders,” Rudri says.
The McCusker Centre for Citizenship provides students with the opportunity to contribute to social solutions as part of their degrees, through structured internships with not for profit, community and government organisations locally, regionally and globally.
The Centre partners with more than 250 organisations such as the Australia Day Council.
“The involvement of young people through the internship program helps us meet several of our many key objectives such as supporting the contribution and active citizenship of engaged communities,” says Auspire CEO, Morgen Lewis.
“The young leaders from the McCusker Centre for Citizenship bring their own experiences to the table and show real commitment to our mission of building a stronger, more cohesive society. We’re thrilled to have their input, helping to develop existing and future initiatives that amplify and encourage active citizenship in our communities,” says Ms Lewis.
