Research Intern: Complaints Monitoring Project

Role Title: Research Intern: Complaints Monitoring Project

Organisation: Commissioner for Children and Young People

Internship Period: Winter (June - July)

Location: Perth, WA

Role Description

The internship will contribute to the implementation phase of the 2026 Complaints Monitoring Project, supporting the operationalisation of a pilot complaints monitoring framework. This phase of the project focuses on testing practical approaches to collecting and analysing complaints data to enable the Commissioner to monitor trends in complaints made by children and young people.
The intern will support the translation of the draft framework into practical tools and processes, including engagement with agencies, collection and organisation of complaints data, and preliminary analysis of trends and themes. This will involve identifying feasible data inputs, supporting pilot data collection, and refining the framework based on real-world application. The intern will work closely with the CCYP policy team and will engage in applied policy work, including data handling, stakeholder engagement, and analysis. The role provides practical experience in implementing statutory monitoring functions under the Commissioner for Children and Young People Act 2006 (WA), particularly the function to monitor trends in complaints, and in supporting evidence-based identification of systemic issues affecting children and young people.
