Role Description

The Shire's Development Services team is currently preparing a new local policy framework centered around a new local planning strategy and new local planning scheme. Specifically, the intern will assist with strategic planning activities, namely:
a) Built form testing within a density transition area surrounding the Cottesloe district centre. This involves generating and testing a range of built forms within the transition area at R12.5, R20, R40, R60, and R80 residential densities using the R-Codes design prescriptions / standards; b) Tree canopy mapping including potential loss of tree canopy cover associated with each built form tested in point (a) above; c) Assist in preparing community consultations including helping to prepare community workshop materials; d) Assist with finalising the local planning strategy content and supporting information / FAQs for submission to Council, DLPH, the Minister; e) Assist with preparing the omnibus local planning scheme amendment content and package for submission to Council, DLPH, the Minister; and f) Time permits, assist with the assessment of a relevant residential development application. The intern will report and work day to day with the Special Projects Officer and be generally supervised by the Manager - Development Services. This is a once in a five-year town planning event/activity that offers real insights into the changing urban fabric of one of the most highly sought after places in WA to live and/or work.
