Role Title: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Intern
Organisation: City of Fremantle
Internship Period: Semester 2 (July – October)
Location: Fremantle
The City of Fremantle is committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful and diverse workplace that reflects the wider community - one that celebrates and supports all people, cultures, and abilities.
We’re committed to embedding diversity and inclusion principles into our employment policies and practices. As part of this commitment, the City implements several strategic plans that promote equity and inclusion across all levels of the organisation.
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Support Intern will work closely with the People and Culture team to support the delivery of initiatives under the City’s internally focused Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Management Plan, as well as contribute to the implementation of internal actions under the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP).
Key tasks will include developing a calendar of important DEI dates (e.g. NAIDOC Week, International Day of People with Disability, IDAHOBIT), and supporting the planning, coordination and delivery of initiatives that raise awareness and celebrate diversity in the workplace. The intern will also assist with creating internal communications and resources to promote these initiatives to staff.
Depending on availability and interest, the intern may also have the opportunity to observe or participate in internal working groups, such as the Gender Equity Working Group, and contribute to shaping current and future DEI actions at the City.
The unique character and atmosphere of Fremantle, its heritage architecture, festivals, retail stores and markets, cafés and restaurants, hotels and breweries contribute to a village style atmosphere that makes it a popular destination for visitors.
