Role Title: Family Mealtimes Intern

ORIGINS is a birth cohort tracking the health and wellbeing of 10,000 Western Australian families, enrolled during pregnancy. It is currently funded to follow up participating children and their families into early childhood.
A number of sub-projects operate within the wider cohort, studying specific research questions relating to different aspects child and family health and wellbeing. We are looking for an intern to contribute to the Family Mealtimes project which is nested as a sub-project of ORIGINS.
The first part of this project involved conducting focus groups with parents who have children aged 1-5 years. Focus groups explored various aspects family mealtimes in a ‘modern’ day with families with young children. Data collection includes audio and video recording. We are looking for an intern to assist with review of the audio recordings, transcriptions, and identification of themes from the transcripts.
As a secondary part of the project, children aged 5-6 years participated in a ‘Draw and Tell’ activity where they were asked to draw a picture representing their family mealtimes. We have developed questions for the parents to guide the conversation. We have now completed data collection and have a rich dataset of children’s drawings and accompanying audio recordings. We are entering the data analysis phase and are looking for an intern to assist with this work.
