Project intern 1: Redesign of Lasting Words Program

Role Title: Project intern 1: Redesign of Lasting Words Program

Organisation: Palliative Care WA

Internship Period: Winter (June - July)

Location: Shenton Park

Role Description

PCWA is the peak body for palliative care in Western Australia. We deliver Lasting Words, a volunteer-led program where trained volunteers record and document the life stories of people nearing end of life, creating a lasting legacy for their families and loved ones.
We are seeking two interns to support the redesign of the Lasting Words program from a service, systems, and business perspective. The role will focus on mapping and improving the end-to-end process, including referrals, intake, volunteer coordination, story recording, and final delivery to families. The intern will work closely with PCWA staff, program volunteers, and key stakeholders such as referrers and community members. They will develop a clear process map, identify opportunities to improve efficiency and sustainability, and contribute to a refreshed business case. The role will also explore simple, fit-for-purpose information management solutions and define requirements for a supporting web presence (e.g. referral pathways and program information). This is a unique opportunity to apply service design and operational thinking within a compassionate, community-focused program, helping ensure more people can access this meaningful service in a timely and sustainable way.
