Role Title: Research Intern: Complaints Monitoring Framework Project
Organisation: Commissioner for Children and Young People
Internship Period: Semester 1 (February - May)
Location: Perth
The Research Intern will support the Commissioner for Children and Young People WA by contributing to the development of a complaints monitoring framework for the upcoming 2026 Complaints Monitoring Project.
The intern will undertake research into complaints monitoring frameworks and best practice approaches, assist in developing a draft framework for monitoring complaints trends, and identify the types of information and data agencies would need to collect or provide to enable effective analysis of complaints monitoring trends.
The intern will work closely with CCYP WA policy staff and will primarily engage in desk-based research, analysis, and structured framework development. The role provides practical experience in policy research, statutory monitoring functions, and the translation of legislative functions into applied monitoring tools to support systemic oversight of complaints handling.
The Commissioner is the independent person who works closely with children and young people, their families, community and government to make WA a better place for 0 to 18 year-olds. In particular, the key functions of the office include:
• Advocating for all children and young people.
• Monitoring laws, policies and practices that affect the wellbeing of children and young people.
• Promoting and valuing the voice of children and young people and the positive contributions they make to our society.
• Consulting children and young people, parents, families and government and non-government organisations.
• Researching the latest trends and information that relate to children and young people.
• Inquiring on behalf of children and young people about issues relating to their wellbeing.
Using research and the other evidence available, the Commissioner seeks to positively influence legislation, policy, services and attitudes.
