Role Title: Evaluation Intern: Youth Program Investigation - Beyond Sport
Organisation: Shire of Wagin
Internship Period: Winter (June - July)
Location: Wagin and from home
A frequent request from our community is a call for more for youth to do in town. The suggestion is that there is little for youth to do that are not into sport. Most alternative programs involve limited run activities, art programs and the like which are one-off. The Wagin Youth Centre has been in hiatus for some time and the capacity of the volunteers who are trying to re-establish is challenged.
This role is to examine what lasting ways to answer the question - what is there for youth to do? And what can we do about it?
Some things to consider - most of youth go to school 30 min away in another town; there are socio-economic issues; most of our town is aged and already committed to other volunteer endeavours; climate conditions make outdoor activities difficult; we don't have enough youth to probably justify outreach programs
The Shire of Wagin is a focussed Local Government providing progressive and innovative leadership that builds a sustainable future while supporting a vibrant, healthy and caring community.
