Project Intern: Community Transport Investigation

Role Title: Project Intern: Community Transport Investigation

Organisation: Jurien Bay Community Resource Centre Inc

Internship Period: Summer (November - December)

Location: Jurien Bay

Role Description

The intern will assist Jurien Bay CRC to identify the best way to go about providing a transport system within our region, for people needing to get to either Perth or Geraldton primarily for medical appointments. The focus should be on supporting older residents who are no longer confident or able to make the 500+ km round trip themselves in order to attend appointments, but with options for other members of the community to utilise the service also. We are looking at a social enterprise model that ideally would break even, that can be accessed using funding from a customer's home care package. We need to know the best options for a vehicle - small bus or people mover; whether to use volunteer drivers or pay them; costs for vehicle purchase, insurance, maintenance, registration, running costs etc; whether to support someone to register as an Uber driver rather than set up the service ourselves - we are open to all options.
