Role Title: Specimen Imaging Intern - Reptiles

The Western Australian Museum is seeking a motivated biology intern to support a
specimen imaging project within its herpetology collection. This role focuses on producing
high-quality digital photographs of over 200 Australian reptile specimens selected for
genetic sequencing.
As an intern, you will work closely with the museum’s collections and research teams,
particularly within the herpetology department, to locate specimens and capture detailed,
high-resolution images using a dedicated photography set up. These images will be
integrated into the museum’s new collections management database and could be used for
future scientific publications.
In addition to imaging, you will assist with developing consistent labeling templates and
maintaining accurate digital records, gaining hands-on experience in museum collection
management practices.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to engage with a significant state scientific
collection, build practical skills in specimen handling and imaging, and contribute creatively
to a project that supports ongoing research. All images produced will remain the property
of the museum, with appropriate credit given to you as the photographer.
