Our Starlight Express Rooms (SERs) are vibrant, medical-free spaces designed to bring moments of joy, creativity, and connection to children in hospital. As a Starlight Intern, you will support Captain Starlight, contributing to enhancing the experience, efficiency, and inclusivity of the Starlight Express Room.
Every day is different at Starlight, but regular tasks include engaging visitors in a variety of different activities: arts and crafts; board games and video games; song and dance; laughter and play. You will also be restocking supplies; cleaning and tidying the space; helping plan activities; creating craft packs.
Every day the Captains play a game live on Starlight TV that can be played in the SER but also for kids who can't leave their rooms. Your project is to create a new game that can be played on Starlight TV. You will view current games and discuss them with the Captains; get feedback on what games the Captains like/dislike and why. After doing this research, your goal is to create a game that is not currently on the show, is inclusive of all age ranges of kids, is the same experience for kids in their rooms and kids in the SER, and that can run for 15-25 minutes.
Throughout your game creation process you will have the support of your supervisor and the Captains for guidance, to see if your ideas would work, and to receive any feedback. Once created, the Captains play your game on one of our afternoon game shows.
