Role Title: Research and Data Analytics Intern: Critical Care
Organisation: St John Ambulance WA
Internship Period: Semester 1 (February - May)
Location: Belmont
The Critical Care Data and Research Intern will support service planning, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives through applied research and data analysis. The intern will undertake a structured review of prehospital airway registries from comparable international ambulance and retrieval systems to identify commonly reported metrics, outcome measures, and governance indicators. Findings will be used to inform the refinement of the organisation’s existing airway registry and to define a tiered reporting framework, including high-level monthly oversight reporting, detailed quarterly quality improvement outputs, and annual system-level reporting.
In addition, the intern will analyse historical operational and clinical data to support evidence-based Critical Care Paramedic resource allocation and deployment planning. This will include identifying patterns in demand, temporal trends, and geographic considerations to inform optimal positioning and utilisation of critical care resources.
Working closely with clinical, operational, and governance stakeholders, the intern will contribute to data interpretation, synthesis of findings, and preparation of reports and presentations for internal review. This role is suited to individuals with an interest in healthcare analytics, clinical research, or health service planning, and offers practical exposure to real-world prehospital critical care data and decision-making processes.
