Research Intern - ORIGINS Team: Access to green space and health outcomes in children

Role Title: Research Intern - ORIGINS Team: Access to green space and health outcomes in children

Organisation: The Kids Research Institute Australia

Internship Period: Semester 2 (July – October)

Location: Nedlands & Edgewater

Role Description

ORIGINS is the largest longitudinal interventional birth cohort study of its kind in Australia. We’re following 10,000 WA children and their families – from their time in the womb into early childhood – to better understand the impact of the early environment on the develop of non-communicable diseases.
ORIGINS collects a range of biological examples from pregnant mothers, their babies and the wider family unit which are stored in our Biobank. Currently, we have over 400,000 biological samples in our Biobank which researchers can access. Alongside our biological samples, our participants complete routine questionnaires covering topics such as diet, exercise, sun exposure, behavioural and development. These are stored in ORIGINS Biobank which has over 16 million data points available to researchers. This specific project will work with data already collected to examine the relationship between access to green space and children's physical health and wellbeing. The objectives of the project are to: • To assess the physical health benefits associated with access to green space. • To evaluate the impact of green space on emotional and social wellbeing in children. • To explore potential moderating effects of socioeconomic and maternal factors
