From Data to Decisions: Mapping Emergency Management Indicators Across WA Councils

Role Title: From Data to Decisions: Mapping Emergency Management Indicators Across WA Councils

Organisation: WA Local Government Association (WALGA)

Internship Period: Summer (November - December)

Location: West Leederville

Role Description

If you're curious, analytical, and ready to make a difference, this internship is for you!
This internship will put you at the intersection of spatial analysis and public policy, where your work can help inform real decisions that affect communities across the state. You’ll use GIS (ArcGIS) to create spatial representations of key emergency management statistics across WA’s Local Governments. By working with WALGA datasets and open data from Data WA, you’ll uncover patterns and relationships between: local emergency capability (Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades and SES Units); community risk indicators; emergency activations; population demographics; and funding flows. You'll have freedom to explore emerging trends and take initiative in your analysis! But this project is about more than just maps - it is about visually representing the critical role local governments play in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies. Your work will help highlight how councils support their communities and where resources are most needed. We will use your work in our advocacy, strategic planning, and influential presentations across the sector. WALGA is an independent, member-based, not-for-profit organisation representing and supporting all 139 Local Governments in the State. WALGA uses its influence, support and expertise to deliver better outcomes for Local Governments and their communities.
