Biomedical Engineering Intern – Trauma Device Design Project

Role Title: Biomedical Engineering Intern – Trauma Device Design Project

Organisation: East Metropolitan Health Service

Internship Period: Summer (November - December)

Location: Perth

Role Description

The Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) Innovation Hub is a new facility to help Western Australian clinicians connect, collaborate and innovate. The RPH Innovation Hub offers a dedicated space for 3D-printing of high-fidelity prototypes, supported by biomedical engineering expertise.
The role will involve working closely with the Hub’s Innovation Technical Lead (the “Engineer in Residence”) on developing a novel device in the trauma space. You will be working with clinical experts to understand the challenge with current solutions and propose design iterations or novel components to adjust the current tool to be better fit-for-purpose. It is anticipated this internship will consist of a combination of desk-based tasks (planning and evaluation), hands-on lab tasks (printing and iterating prototype designs) and consultation activities (to validate and enhance the design components). In addition, you may provide some general support to the Innovation Team on an as needed basis and learn about how Innovation functions as a business unit with the WA public hospital system.
