Role Title: State Records Commission - Index of Decisions

The intern will work with the State Records Office team to develop an index of decisions made by the State Records Commission WA. The State Records Commission was established under the State Records Act 2000 (WA) and members are the Auditor General, Information Commissioner, Ombudsman and a Governor's Appointee (with expertise in managing records and archives). The Commission’s main functions are set out in sections 60, 61 and 64 of the Act and include:
• Monitoring the operation of and compliance with the Act;
• Monitoring compliance by government organisations with record keeping plans; and
• Inquiring into breaches or possible breaches of the Act.
• Establishing principles and standards for:
- governing record keeping by State organisations;
̵ governing contracts or arrangements entered into by State organisations with persons under which they are to perform any aspect of record keeping for the organisations;
̵ determining which State records should be State archives;
̵ determining which State archives should be restricted access archives and the ages at which they should cease to be restricted;
̵ determining which State archives should not be transferred to the State archives collection; and
̵ determining the retention periods of State records that are not to be State archives.
The State Records Office of Western Australia (SRO) is the Western Australian public records authority with responsibility for managing, preserving and providing access to the State's records. The SRO operates as an agency within the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. The SRO delivers records management and archival services to State and Local Government agencies public and ensures that the public have access to the State Archives Collection through online access services and a jointly operated Reading Room in the State Library Building in the Perth Cultural Centre.
