Role Description

The intern will work within the Policy Team.
1. To undertake a desktop review of the WA Child Impact Assessment Guidelines (2020) and develop recommendations to strengthen alignment with contemporary child rights-based approaches, including relevant principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the Australian Human Rights Commission Child Rights Impact Assessment framework. 2. To identify and recommend updates to the WA Child Impact Assessment Guidelines that strengthen consideration of children's rights in decision-making while maintaining the existing purpose and structure of the Guidelines as a practical tool for assessing impacts on children and young people.

• Advocating for all children and young people. • Monitoring laws, policies and practices that affect the wellbeing of children and young people. • Promoting and valuing the voice of children and young people and the positive contributions they make to our society. • Consulting children and young people, parents, families and government and non-government organisations. • Researching the latest trends and information that relate to children and young people. • Inquiring on behalf of children and young people about issues relating to their wellbeing. Using research and the other evidence available, the Commissioner seeks to positively influence legislation, policy, services and attitudes.
