WALGA developed the Better Practice Vergeside Collection Guideline more than a decade ago to support Local Governments in the planning and delivery of verge collection services. Since then, significant changes have occurred including the transition to pre-booked collection and even terminology to a bulk waste collection rather than vergeside collection. As a result, the existing guideline no longer reflects current industry practices, terminology, service models or emerging opportunities for better practice.
To ensure Local Governments have access to contemporary, evidence-based guidance, WALGA proposes to develop a new Better Practice Bulk Verge Collection Guideline. The guideline will provide an updated overview of bulk verge collection practices across Western Australia, identify effective service delivery models and innovations, highlight opportunities to improve resource recovery outcomes and community satisfaction and support Local Governments in delivering safe and efficient services.
You will undertake sector research, data analysis, stakeholder engagement and consultation, policy and legislative review to inform the development of the Guideline. The findings and recommendations will be presented to sector through a Guideline webinar.
The WA Local Government Association (WALGA) is working for Local Government in Western Australia. As the peak industry body, WALGA advocates on behalf of WA's 139 Local Governments and negotiates service agreements for the sector. WALGA is not a government department or agency.
