Role Title: Emergency Road Closure Systems Development Intern

We currently use an excel spreadsheet containing macros to manage road closures during incidents. However, our systems do not support the use of macros, creating a need for an alternative solution.
We are seeking an intern to develop a replacement system that enables the recording, tracking, and management of road closures. This could be delivered as a web-based application, Power Platform solution, or another suitable technology.
Key requirements include:
• The ability to create, update, and track road closures during incidents.
• Multi-user access across government agencies, as road closure management often involves several organisations.
• A simple and intuitive interface that can be used in operational environments.
• The ability to operate offline when internet connectivity is unavailable, with data synchronisation when connectivity is restored.
• Secure data sharing and access controls appropriate for a multi-agency environment.
• The ability to generate reports and provide situational awareness of current and historical road closures.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) was established on the 1st November 2012, and performs a critical role coordinating emergency services for a range of natural disasters and emergency incidents threatening life and property.
It comprises of 1600 operational personnel and corporate staff members. It also has an extensive network of more than 27,000 volunteers engaged in the delivery of services to the community.
The Operational Research and Development branch’s purpose is to enable the continuous improvement of our operational assets including firefighting fleet, equipment and personal protective clothing to enhance service delivery to the community and increase the capability of the department.
