Aboriginal Data Governance Stakeholder Engagement Intern

Role Title: Aboriginal Data Governance Stakeholder Engagement Intern

Organisation: Department of the Premier and Cabinet

Internship Period: Summer (November - December)

Location: West Perth, Western Australia

Role Description

Under the direction of the Chief Data Officer, the Data Unit leads whole-of-government strategy to enable data-driven decision making and evidence-based policy development in the WA public sector. It coordinates a range of whole-of-government reforms, including implementation of the information sharing provisions of the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (PRIS Act). This new legislation will enable agencies to share information for research with a clear public benefit. The PRIS Act will support Aboriginal Data Governance by requiring that Aboriginal people are involved or consulted before government-held data that affects Aboriginal people and communities is shared. The PRIS team is developing guidelines and templates to help agencies, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and researchers to make use of the PRIS Act. This will require extensive consultation with representatives from the different stakeholder groups to develop and endorse the resources. The intern will support and coordinate this consultation. The intern will also have the opportunity to develop a comprehensive stakeholder engagement plan for the co-design of a broader Aboriginal Data Governance Policy. This plan will support the work of the PRIS team in 2026.
