Role Description

The DFES Academy in Forrestfield is undertaking an exciting project to modernise and expand its specialist training video library, covering critical operational areas including Road Crash Rescue, Breathing Apparatus and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) response.
As an intern, you will work closely with experienced firefighter subject matter experts to plan, film and produce training videos that support firefighter learning across Western Australia. You will help capture key operational procedures, techniques and best-practice methods, gaining valuable insight into emergency services training and operations. Your work will involve updating existing videos to reflect new equipment and procedures, as well as creating new training resources where none currently exist. You will have the opportunity to contribute to all stages of the production process, from filming and content planning through to editing and final delivery. Most filming will take place at the DFES Academy alongside career firefighters during practical training activities. This is a unique opportunity to build your media production skills, develop a professional portfolio and contribute to resources that help prepare emergency responders to keep Western Australian communities safe.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) was established on the 1st November 2012, and performs a critical role coordinating emergency services for a range of natural disasters and emergency incidents threatening life and property.
It comprises of 1600 operational personnel and corporate staff members. It also has an extensive network of more than 27,000 volunteers engaged in the delivery of services to the community. The Operational Research and Development branch’s purpose is to enable the continuous improvement of our operational assets including firefighting fleet, equipment and personal protective clothing to enhance service delivery to the community and increase the capability of the department.
