Role Title: Community Engagement and Strategic Development Intern

Internship Scope and Objectives
• Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with members of the District Leadership Group to understand the group’s purpose, priorities, and strategic direction.
• Community Needs Assessment: Liaise with local agencies and service providers to identify emerging needs and gaps in service delivery.
• Strategic Development: Assist in the development of a district-wide strategy and a formal Terms of Reference to guide the group’s operations.
• Advocacy and Policy Support: Research and draft a social advocacy paper that reflects the district’s priorities and supports evidence-based decision-making.
• Meeting Participation: Attend and contribute to monthly leadership group meetings, currently held via Microsoft Teams with a transition to in-person meetings underway.
Support and Supervision
The intern will be primarily supported by the City of Canning, which will act as the main point of contact throughout the placement. The City will provide day-to-day guidance, coordinate access to relevant stakeholders, and ensure the intern is well-integrated into the activities of the District Leadership Group. In addition, the intern will benefit from exposure to a diverse range of professionals across member agencies, with opportunities for mentoring, regular check-ins, and the chance to present their work to senior leaders.
The City is located in Perth’s south-eastern suburbs, about 10km from the Perth CBD and covers a total of 65km2. The City is made up of 16 suburbs including Bentley, Cannington, East Cannington, Ferndale, Lynwood, Parkwood, Queens Park, Riverton, Rossmoyne, Shelley, Welshpool, Willetton, Wilson and parts of the suburbs of St James, Canning Vale and Leeming.
