Role Title: LOLO and VHF - Audience and Situation Map Intern

Organisation: Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES)

Internship Period: Semester 1 (February - May)

Location: Belmont

Role Description

This internship supports the Log On / Log Off (LOLO) project and Marine Rescue Communications Support (MRCS) by analysing who Marine Rescue Groups are communicating with, in what situations, and what people need to understand to safely use LOLO and VHF marine radio.
The intern will identify key boating audiences and common real-world situations where LOLO and VHF messaging is relevant, then map likely assumptions, misunderstandings, and information gaps. The focus of the role is structured analysis and documentation rather than marketing, campaign development, or content creation. The outputs from this role will inform future safety messaging, training materials, and public communications used by Marine Rescue Groups across Western Australia, helping improve clarity, consistency, and safety outcomes.
