Role Title: Research and Technical Writing Intern
Organisation: Office of the Information Commissioner
Internship Period: Summer (November - December)
Location: PERTH
The project is loosely defined as research and technical writing assistance support for the WA Information Commissioner - who is also currently Chairperson of the State Records Commission of WA. The assistance will involve drafting a written report to summarise some empirical research that has already been completed by other interns. A guide to the style of report will be provided. It will involve developing an understanding State records & archives legislation. In addition, there may be some other discrete tasks that have a connection to this project and the work of the State Records Commission.
The Western Australian Freedom of Information Act 1992 (the FOI Act) gives people a right of access to documents held by most State Government agencies, Ministers and local government. Together, these bodies are called “agencies” in the FOI Act. The position of Information Commissioner was established under the FOI Act. The Commissioner is an independent officer who is directly accountable to Parliament. The main function of the Commissioner is to deal with complaints about the decisions of agencies in respect of FOI applications. Another function is to ensure that both agencies and the public are aware of their respective responsibilities and rights under the FOI Act.
