Event Intern, Paint the Highway REaD Annual Reading Day

Role Title: Event Intern, Paint the Highway REaD Annual Reading Day

Organisation: Centrecare

Internship Period: Semester 2 (July – October)

Location: Gosnells

Role Description

Based at the Gosnells Child and Parent Centre (G-CPC), the Event Intern will plan and coordinate the Annual Reading Day event in collaboration with the Paint the Highway REaD (PTHR) Working Group. PTHR is an early literacy movement encouraging parents and caregivers to Read, Play, Sing, Rhyme, and Talk with children daily from birth so they will be ready to learn when they start school. Annual Reading Day is a large, family-friendly event for preschool-aged children and their parents/caregivers. Run alongside and in collaboration with City of Gosnells Park Play, it features stallholders providing early years services and includes an appearance from three large, loveable Possum Mascots - Pete, Patrick, and Paige - who will lead a song and rhyme session. Gift bag giveaways with books are also part of the fun. This event runs with no budget and relies on collaboration with other agencies and existing resources within the Working Group, which includes Centrecare's G-CPC and East Maddington CPC, City of Gosnells Libraries, GoodStart Early Learning Canning Vale, Communicare, and community volunteers. The Event Intern will play a crucial role in planning, coordinating, and evaluating the Annual Reading Day event. Additionally, the intern may evaluate other similar programs or initiatives at the G-CPC to ensure the G-CPC activities effectively meet community needs and appropriate reporting is provided to funding bodies.
