Role Title: Online Community Engagement Intern
Organisation: Ascension Connection - Midland Anglican Church
Internship Period: Semester 1 (February - May)
Location: Midland
The role is to develop, promote and evaluate an online community of people currently accessing our food and social connection service - Ascension Connection Cafe.
Ascension Connection has been very successful up to now in developing relationships and social connection between people experiencing homelessness or food insecurity. We have developed a genuine in-person community.
The purpose of this internship is to extend the programme by building an online community, probably using a social media platform, and encouraging our current community to start connecting online.
This may require some basic technical support for potential users as well as general marketing and promotion.
By connecting people online we not only increase their social connection with others, we can also use the forum as a means to notify people of new services or special events. In particular, we are hoping to start a new programme to open our airconditioned hall during heat waves to provide a cool space, seating and iced water. An online forum is an ideal way to let people know at short notice that the service is available and will allow us to respond quickly to local weather forecasts and conditions.
The role would also involve researching similar programmes and ideas for other services we could offer that would suit online promotion, notification and information.
At Ascension, we provide a welcoming, safe and inclusive space to assist and connect people in the community.
