Role Title: Research Intern - Ecosystem Health data analytics
Organisation: Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions
Internship Period: Summer (November - December)
Location: Kings Park
Currently Kings Park Science is monitoring tree water use and environmental parameters in both natural and irrigated areas of the park. Understanding water requirements of trees in urban environments is becoming more critical as we face restrictions on irrigation in the face of a drying and warming climate. This project will take tree water-use and local environmental data and transform it into a useable and digestible form for the general public to understand what drives tree health and irrigation practices. The data could then potentially be presented in a web type interface at Kings Park where the general public could learn more about the environment and trees.
The intern will work alongside research scientists and technicians to "Bring the data to life". Additionally, Kings Park Science (https://www.bgpa.wa.gov.au/kings-park-science) has a broad range of research projects that the successful candidate would be exposed to and encouraged to engage with throughout the internship including some in Kings Park and others across the State .
The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) brings together the Parks and Wildlife Service, Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority, Zoological Parks Authority (Perth Zoo), Rottnest Island Authority, Conservation and Parks Commission, Swan River Trust (Swan Canning Riverpark) and Biodiversity and Conservation Science.
