Role Description

Open only to Mechanical, Electrical or Civil/Structural Engineering students. Undergrad and postgrad engineering students in the above streams are welcome to apply. The role involves familiarising with the Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements and duties to ensure safety of workers across a range of multiple industries ranging from manufacturing, heavy equipment maintenance, steel fabrication, industrial construction, chemical processing, onshore oil and gas facilities etc. The range of industries and the exposure will depend upon the nature of incoming work and other operational priorities. Getting familiarised with the WHS Act 2020 and WHS (General) Regulations 2022, WorkSafe's policies procedures and guidelines will be a priority. Focus areas will be high hazard plant cranes, pressure equipment, EWPs etc), their design meeting regulatory requirements and applicable standards, inspections and maintenance in various workplaces / industries while working alongside an Inspector Engineer or Senior Inspector Engineer. This may also include inspecting workplaces for WHS compliance and conducting incident investigations. During the site visits, the intern will be shadowing a Senior Inspector Engineer or an Inspector Engineer. The site visits will be carried out in the Department vehicles, driven by the accompanying Inspector.
