Role Title: Research Intern: Insecure housing among older women

Internship Period: Semester 1 (February - May)
Location: CityWest Lotteries House, West Perth
Factors which may be contributing to the increasing incidence of insecure housing among older women.
Older women are the fastest growing cohort of homeless Australians. This role will inform a critical piece of advocacy COTA WA is undertaking with other Community Advocacy Bodies to address this issue.
The role will involve:
1.0 Undertake a Literature Review on the topic, covering research from WA, Australia and internationally.
2.0 Analysis of the key pathways to insecure housing and homelessness among older women - including identifying possible early indicators.
3.0 Analysis of interventions which may help to mitigate the circumstances leading to insecure housing.
4.0 Final report on the findings, outlining the research findings and offering key policy directions which COTA could adopt and adapt to provide advice to relevant government and non -government agencies and to guide its further work in this growing societal problem
Starting life in 1959 as the old people’s welfare council of Western Australia, the change to the Western Australian Council of the Ageing in 1968 also crystallised the founding principal of valuing the contribution and lived experience of older people and the advance the rights, needs and interests of older western Australians.
