Role Title: Safety Education Intern 2 - Research
Organisation: Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS)
Internship Period: Summer (November - December)
Location: Cannington
WorkSafe's vision is healthy and safe workplaces in Western Australia and to drive workplace change through education, specialist advice and enforcement.
Safety Education, a division of WorkSafe, provides support through stakeholder guidance, stakeholder relations and digital engagement.
Stakeholder guidance produces a range of publications, which includes codes of practice. A code of practice is a practical guide to achieving the standards of health and safety required under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and associated Regulations. There are currently 28 Model codes of practice, as well as additional codes for the resources industry. On average it can take up to 18 months for a new code of practice to be developed and approximately six months for a revision of an existing code.
The role of the intern is to research the effectiveness of codes of practice versus other guidance and education products, what is the reliance of codes within the inspectorate and industry, are they useful for employers and workers including small businesses and those from diverse backgrounds, and what are the experiences of other jurisdictions.
The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety's mission is to support a safe, fair and responsible future for the Western Australian community, industry and resources sector.
