Role Title: IT Systems Research Intern: Resource Management Research
Organisation: Department of Fire and Emergency Services
Internship Period: Summer (November - December)
Location: Forrestfield
To manage the Academy resources (Rooms, Training Props & Locations), we use ResSched from https://madrigalsofttools.com/wp/ressched-10/ and have done for many years. Previously we have looked to see if there was another off the shelf system that could provide what we need and we also tried to get a system built, however another project stopped this.
The main reason we stay with ResSched is it offers irregular bookings, i.e. if you want a room on Tuesday this week and Thursday the following week, we can enter this as one booking. There is an ongoing stability issue with the system, which the provider has not been able to rectify.
We’re looking to have research undertaken into off the shelf options and build options or ResSched is still the one to work with.
The intern would possibly be required to research systems and provide an analysis on options. This will build the ability for the DFES Academy to provide quality training and support, to enhance our service to the community of WA.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) was established on the 1st November 2012, and performs a critical role coordinating emergency services for a range of natural disasters and emergency incidents threatening life and property.
It comprises of 1600 operational personnel and corporate staff members. It also has an extensive network of more than 27,000 volunteers engaged in the delivery of services to the community.
The Operational Research and Development branch’s purpose is to enable the continuous improvement of our operational assets including firefighting fleet, equipment and personal protective clothing to enhance service delivery to the community and increase the capability of the department.
