Project Intern 2, Safer Advocacy and Information

Role Title: Project Intern 2, Safer Advocacy and Information

Organisation: Women's Legal Services

Internship Period: Semester 1 (February - May)

Location: Perth

Role Description

This role will have two projects, as follows:
1. SAILS project work 2. Development of a directory of FDV-informed and trauma-informed therapy services in WA. **SAILS** The Safer Advocacy and Information in Legal Services (SAILS) Project has developed a series of training and other resources focused on improving knowledge and understanding of family, domestic and sexual violence (FDSV) by lawyers and legal professionals. Training includes information about FDSV, risk factors, intersectionalities, practice training and others. Currently, some training materials may be dependent on the knowledge of the presenter, need supporting documents to make them more easily transferable to others delivering the training. The intern would assist with developing resources such as training guides and student handouts based on the research and information developed for the project. The intern would also assist with developing other resources for use internally or across the sector. **Therapy Directory ** In WLSWA's and salswa's response to clients who have been subjected to family, domestic and sexual violence, it is important that we make referrals to services which are safe, trauma-informed, FDV informed and understand the needs of someone who was subjected to sexual assault. This project will take into account the likely needs of lawyers, social workers and other referrers to identify appropriate referral pathways, as well as a series of search criteria for a database.

Organisation Mission

We are a not for profit community legal centre providing legal advice, support and advocacy to WA women experiencing disadvantage. We work to promote a legal system that is safe, supportive, non-discriminatory and responsive to the needs of all women in our community, particularly those who face disadvantage. We believe that just and fair outcomes, as well as access to justice and support when needed, should not be dependent on gender.
