Role Title: Surgical Quality Improvement Intern

The surgical directorate at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) is providing an opportunity for an intern to assist in driving surgical auditing to monitor patient safety and quality of care. The aim of this project is to examine both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis to improve clinical practice and surgical outcomes for patients within the organisation.
This role may include:
• Assessing the current state of surgical audit data collection and usage of the data within the surgical directorate.
• Undertaking audit data entry onto Microsoft Office Suite applications such as MS Excel
• Conducting literature reviews and benchmarking with similar organisations to identify best practice in relation to surgical auditing.
• Assisting in the development of professional written documents using MS Word such as Briefing Notes (BN) and Business Cases (BC) to secure proposed funding and executive buy in for new initiatives that arise to improve patient safety and quality.
• Supporting the development of Quality Improvement (QI) activities to improve the safety and quality of patient care provided within the surgical directorate.
