Role Title: Legal intern 1
Organisation: Women's Legal Services
Internship Period: Summer (November - December)
Location: Perth
The intern will assist the team with the following four tasks:
1. Editing and preparing general legal resources under supervision – fact sheets, forms, letter templates, etc. (approximately half the time).
2. Supporting the Project Manager on FDV-related project work – various projects available to choose from, according to the intern's skills and preferences (approximately a quarter of the time).
3. Shadowing lawyers and assisting with particular legal research as required (approximately a quarter of the time). This would include some time observing at court with the lawyers (at least once per week, depending on the matter and timing).
4. Short legal administration tasks related to appointments.
Overall supervision will be by the Project Manager, with legal tasks supervised by the Senior Supervising Lawyer.
We are a not for profit community legal centre providing legal advice, support and advocacy to WA women experiencing disadvantage. We work to promote a legal system that is safe, supportive, non-discriminatory and responsive to the needs of all women in our community, particularly those who face disadvantage. We believe that just and fair outcomes, as well as access to justice and support when needed, should not be dependent on gender.
