Evaluation Intern, Economic Development Strategy

Role Title: Evaluation Intern, Economic Development Strategy

Organisation: North Eastern Wheatbelt Regional Organisation of Councils (NEWROC)

Internship Period: Summer (November - December)

Location: Mukinbudin and from home

Role Description

The North Eastern Wheatbelt Regional Organisation of Councils (NEWROC) includes the
local governments of Dowerin, Wyalkatchem, Nungarin, Trayning, Mt Marshall, Mukinbudin and Koorda. The NEWROC is a voluntary organisation of seven Councils, who have been working together for 27yrs. The NEWROC establishes the framework for the joint and collaborative progression of community and economic development actions, initiatives and priorities across the member Shires. We have an Economic Development Strategy in place. One of the outcomes in the Strategy is: 1 e) There is a skilled local workforce, including volunteers for health services in the NEWROC. St Johns Ambulance is a critical service in the district. It is 100% volunteer run and is often the only health support service in town (we have 2 hospitals in 7 Shires and a GP service in Wyalkatchem/Koorda as well as Kununoppin). We are experiencing an older volunteer base and less people stepping forward. The NEWROC would like to seek support from an intern to: • Investigate the current state of volunteerism across the St John’s Volunteer Ambulance Service in the NEWROC (7 Shires) as well as engage with St John’s in Perth; • Write a report summarising the findings, present this to the NEWROC; and • Working with the NEWROC EO, develop strategies for the NEWROC and St Johns Ambulance Service to consider ensuring there is a long-term local supply of St John’s volunteers.
