Legal Intern

Role Title: Legal Intern

Organisation: Street Law Centre

Internship Period: Summer (November - December)

Location: East Perth

Role Description

Street Law Centre is a specialist community legal centre that provides free legal advice and ongoing legal assistance to people experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness in Western Australia. We are seeking an intern in their penultimate or final year of their law degree to assist us with casework and reviewing and updating our knowledge notes.
Street Law practices in both criminal and civil law, specializing in the legal areas that most commonly impact our client group. The duties required will be responding to client matters under the direct supervision of our senior lawyers and Principal lawyer. At Street Law we have numerous knowledge notes on the areas of law we work in; the documents outline the key law, processes and steps to follow. The knowledge notes are used by staff and volunteers when completing case work for clients. We need our knowledge notes to be reviewed, updated and disclaimers added to each document. The knowledge notes cover topics such as criminal injuries compensation, criminal law, debt, department of communities housing matters, discrimination, drivers licence issues, identity documents, police complaints, police interactions and superannuation. Through this process, the legal intern will gain valuable knowledge about the key areas we practice in.
