IT support intern for the Maternal Fetal Medicine Service patient database

Role Title: IT support intern for the Maternal Fetal Medicine Service patient database

Organisation: North Metropolitan Health Service

Internship Period: Semester 1 (February - May)

Location: King Edward Memorial Hospital, Subiaco.

Role Description

The Maternal Fetal Medicine Service provides health care for the majority of pregnany women with complex pregnancies (either health issues with the woman or her fetus(es)) throughout Western Australia and is based at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Subiaco. The medical staff of the MFM Service comprise obstetricians with advanced training in complex pregnancies and midwives with expertise in high risk pregnancy care.
The MFM Service currently uses a health department approved RedCap data base which captures some elements of the fetal complications that come through our service but we wish to expand the capacity of the fetal data base (including importing the prior data from an Access database that was used previously) and create a maternal medical database to capture information from our pregnant patients with complex medical disorders (eg. gestational breast cancer, cardiac disease, inflammatory bowel diseases). The intern will be based at KEMH and will interact with the doctors and midwives of our service in order to assist in the creation and improvement of the databases discussed above. The intern does not necessarily need any medical knowledge, however must acknowledge the rights of women to access abortion care.
